Overview

DisplayPort is the preferred interface for high-performance PC monitors. Unlike HDMI, it is an open, royalty-free standard designed specifically for computer displays.

Advantages

  • Higher Bandwidth: Often supports higher refresh rates and resolutions than contemporary HDMI versions.
  • Multi-Stream Transport (MST): Allows 'daisy-chaining' multiple monitors from a single port.
  • Adaptive Sync: Foundation for technologies like G-Sync and FreeSync.

Versions

  • DP 1.4: Supports 4K at 144Hz.
  • DP 2.1: Supports massive resolutions up to 16K.
