TCL is introducing next-gen NXTPAPER displays with AMOLED technology, combining paper-like eye comfort with premium specs like 3200 nits brightness, 120Hz refresh rate, and 100% P3 color gamut.
TCL is taking its eye-friendly NXTPAPER display technology to the next level by integrating it with AMOLED panels, promising users the best of both worlds: the paper-like comfort that made NXTPAPER popular with LCD screens, now combined with the vivid colors and deep blacks that AMOLED is known for.

The original NXTPAPER technology, which TCL has been developing for years, was designed to reduce eye strain by minimizing glare and providing a more natural viewing experience compared to standard smartphone and tablet displays. The company achieved this through a combination of nano-matrix lithography to reduce glare and circular polarized light that TCL says makes the light from the display feel more "natural."
While previous NXTPAPER devices like the TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro featured LCD screens with up to 900 nits peak brightness, the new AMOLED variant dramatically expands the capabilities. The NXTPAPER AMOLED displays support brightness levels as low as 1 nit for comfortable nighttime reading, while also reaching a peak brightness of 3200 nits for HDR content and outdoor visibility.
Beyond the impressive brightness range, these new displays feature a 120 Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and gaming, 100% P3 wide color gamut coverage for vibrant and accurate colors, and ΔE<1 color accuracy that ensures what you see on screen matches the intended colors precisely. The displays also maintain NXTPAPER's signature features including flicker-free viewing, blue light reduction, and a "circadian screen comfort" feature that automatically adjusts brightness and color temperature based on the time of day.
The timing of this announcement is interesting, as it comes alongside TCL's plans to launch the NXTPAPER 70 Pro in the US market in April. This phone, which features the previous-generation LCD-based NXTPAPER technology, represents TCL's first major push into the US market with its eye-care focused display technology.
However, consumers eager to experience the new AMOLED version will need to be patient. While TCL is demonstrating the technology at Mobile World Congress this week, the company has only committed to launching an AMOLED NXTPAPER smartphone before the end of the year. There's no confirmation yet whether this device will be available in the US market, where TCL has historically had a limited presence compared to its strong position in other regions.
The evolution from LCD to AMOLED represents a significant technical achievement for TCL. Combining the paper-like optical properties of NXTPAPER with AMOLED's superior contrast ratios and color reproduction could create a display that's both easier on the eyes and more visually impressive than either technology alone. For users who spend long hours on their devices and are concerned about eye strain, this could be an attractive option that doesn't force them to choose between comfort and visual quality.
As mobile devices continue to be central to our daily lives, technologies that prioritize eye health while maintaining premium performance are likely to become increasingly important. TCL's NXTPAPER AMOLED displays represent an interesting approach to this challenge, and it will be worth watching how the market responds when these devices finally reach consumers.
