VSCO has launched a new standalone Galleries app that aims to simplify photo sharing for collaborative projects by replacing traditional shared folders with a more streamlined, professional experience.

The Problem with Shared Folders
As most professionals will likely attest, shared folders are hardly the best way to share images with a client, especially when multiple photographers are involved, like at events, weddings, or portrait sessions. The traditional approach of using shared folders through cloud services often leads to confusion, version control issues, and a lack of cohesive presentation.
How VSCO Galleries Works
Available for iPhone today, with a desktop app coming soon, VSCO Galleries was designed to tackle the friction of shared folders in collaborative photography projects. The app "simplifies the delivery process while promoting collaboration, enabling photographers, guests, event organizers and content creators to gather and share photos in one, photo-first experience."
Key Features
The app unifies photos from multiple contributors into a single gallery and offers VSCO Pro members unlimited storage and password-protected controls. Here's how it works:
- QR Code Sharing: Organizers can share a QR code that allows contributors (think party or wedding guests) to upload photos directly to the centralized gallery from their desktop or mobile browser, without needing to download the app
- Multi-Contributor Support: Multiple photographers can contribute to the same gallery, making it ideal for events with several shooters
- Password Protection: Galleries can be secured with passwords to control access
- Unlimited Storage: Available for VSCO Pro members
Professional Focus
VSCO CEO Eric Wittman emphasized the professional nature of the new app: "For photographers, sharing work is more than sending images. It's about sharing their story, craft, and visual identity. […] With VSCO Galleries, we're giving photographers a delivery experience that reflects the quality of their work. Refined, intentional, and distinctly theirs all while empowering them to build stronger client relationships and a more sustainable business."
Pricing and Availability
VSCO Galleries' core functionality is free, with additional features available to VSCO Pro users for $60 per year. The initial launch is mobile-only for iPhone, but VSCO has confirmed that a desktop app is under development.
This move by VSCO represents a significant step toward professionalizing photo sharing workflows, particularly for collaborative projects where multiple contributors need to share images in a cohesive, organized manner.
