The anticipated Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake faces additional setbacks, as credible sources indicate development requires significant additional work. This follows the game's failure to materialize on January 16, 2026, a date previously suggested by industry insider Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming.

Reliable leaker NateTheHate2 addressed the situation directly, stating on social media: "Nothing new to share. It'll be released when it's ready. Game still has work to be done." This aligns with his earlier accurate prediction that the title wouldn't appear at The Game Awards.

The remake has encountered multiple challenges since its 2020 announcement, when initial trailer reception proved underwhelming. Development shifted from Ubisoft Pune to Ubisoft Montreal following delays, with Ubisoft later confirming a 2026 release window during their 2024 Forward event.

Recent signs had fueled speculation about a January release, including domain activity for the game's official website and internal marketing materials suggesting a late 2025 promotional push. However, December passed without announcements, dashing hopes for a surprise launch.

This delay occurs amid broader challenges for Ubisoft, including ongoing studio layoffs in Halifax and Abu Dhabi, despite strong Assassin's Creed: Shadows sales. The publisher faces increased pressure to deliver a polished product, particularly given the franchise's legacy since the original's 2003 debut and tepid response to earlier footage.

Insiders suggest Ubisoft may extend the marketing cycle to rebuild confidence. With no revised release date confirmed, development continues as the publisher balances quality expectations against financial realities.
