Keychron expands its Hall-effect keyboard lineup with the Lemokey P3 HE, an 80% TKL model featuring Gateron Double-Rail Magnetic Nebula switches and a tool-free quick-release case for easy modding. Priced at $169.99, it targets enthusiasts who want magnetic switch performance without the compact layout of the P2 HE.

Keychron has introduced the Lemokey P3 HE, an 80% TKL (Tenkeyless) keyboard that expands its Hall-effect magnetic switch lineup under the Lemokey sub-brand. This new model builds on the foundation of the Lemokey P2 HE, which we reviewed positively last year, but offers a more traditional layout with an F-row and extra navigation keys while omitting the numpad. Notably, Keychron has removed the customizable knob found on the P2 HE, focusing instead on core magnetic switch performance and modding accessibility.

The P3 HE uses the same Gateron Double-Rail Magnetic Nebula switches as the P2 HE, which we found delivered a notably smooth and stable typing experience in our testing. These switches utilize a dual-rail design that reduces wobble and provides consistent magnetic actuation. However, it's important to note that these switches are proprietary and not cross-compatible with other popular magnetic options like the Gateron Jade Pros or Wooting's Lekker switches. Some users may also find them fatiguing during extended typing sessions, as the magnetic resistance can feel different from traditional mechanical switches.

The keyboard's construction includes a gasket-mounted design with multiple layers of sound-dampening foam, which helps absorb vibration and create a more muted acoustic profile. Keychron pairs this with double-shot Cherry profile PBT keycaps, which offer better durability and texture compared to ABS alternatives. The entire case is metal, available in both black and white colorways, providing a premium feel that matches the keyboard's $169.99 price point.

A major selling point for the P3 HE is its quick-release design. Like other keyboards in the Lemokey P Series, the top case can be disassembled without any tools, making it exceptionally easy to open for modifications, cleaning, or switch swapping. This feature is particularly valuable for enthusiasts who frequently tinker with their keyboards, as it eliminates the need for screwdrivers or prying tools that could damage the case. Currently, no other Keychron keyboards offer this tool-free disassembly capability.

The P3 HE inherits the full suite of Hall-effect features that make magnetic switches attractive for gaming and productivity. These include:

  • Rapid Trigger: Allows keys to reset instantly when pressed, enabling faster repeated inputs
  • Adjustable Actuation: Sensitivity can be tuned down to 0.01mm precision, letting users customize the exact point where a key registers
  • SOCD (Simultaneous Opposite Cardinal Direction) Cleaning: Prevents conflicting inputs in games that require precise directional control
  • DKS (Dynamic Keystroke): Enables different actions based on how far a key is pressed

The keyboard also features improved stabilizers over previous models, a 1,000 Hz polling rate for responsive input, and north-facing RGB backlighting. Connectivity options are comprehensive: Bluetooth for wireless convenience, 2.4 GHz wireless for low-latency gaming, and USB-C for wired operation with charging. Battery life is rated at up to 120 hours with RGB off, which is respectable but notably lower than Keychron's newer Q Ultra series keyboards like the Q3 Ultra, which claim up to 660 hours of battery life.

The Lemokey P3 HE is priced at $169.99, the same as the P2 HE, and is available for order directly from Keychron's website and the Lemokey website. This pricing positions it competitively against other Hall-effect keyboards like the Wooting 60HE+ ($175) and the upcoming 80% models from other manufacturers.

For users considering this keyboard, the choice between the P3 HE and its sibling P2 HE largely comes down to layout preference. The P3 HE offers the traditional 80% layout with function rows and navigation keys that many programmers and productivity users prefer, while the P2 HE provides a more compact 65% form factor that saves desk space. Both share the same core switch technology and modding-friendly design philosophy.

The Lemokey P3 HE represents Keychron's continued commitment to the Hall-effect switch market, offering magnetic switch performance at a price point that undercuts many competitors while maintaining the build quality and modding accessibility that enthusiasts expect. As magnetic switches continue to gain popularity for their customizable actuation and rapid trigger capabilities, keyboards like the P3 HE make this technology more accessible to users who prefer a standard keyboard layout.
